Top Ten Job Expectations Most Wanted
0 Comments Published January 26th, 2009 in Education, Management & CareersAccording to a recent survey, job dissatisfaction is widespread among workers of all ages across all income brackets. The study found that only half of all the workers are satisfied with their jobs. Worker satisfaction has declined across all income brackets over the last nine years (click here for more on this study). Surveys over the past 40 years have shown that 40% to 50% of workers would change their line of work, if they could.
He swings around a college lecture hall on a long rope to show how pendulums work. He demonstrates velocity by firing a rifle. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Prof. Walter Lewin has become a global Internet star now that anyone with access to a computer can watch his tough but fun Physics 1, 2, and 3 lectures free of charge. They can even do the homework he assigns his Cambridge techie students (though they won’t get the grades or credit). The Netherlands-born Lewin, 71, told U.S.News’s Kim Clark that putting his courses online took a lot of work and cost about $100,000—but was worth it.
Now that your lectures have already been recorded, do you think it’s necessary to give them in person anymore?
I hope I will be doing [Physics 3] again this year. The students might as well just watch my lectures on the Web, but they will come anyhow because they want to see me…. But many other physics professors [at other colleges] use these lectures as their physics course, which is perfectly fine. They write me notes, saying “Why should we prepare lectures when we cannot compete with the quality of your lectures? We show them in class and use them as a starting point to have discussions with the students,” which I think makes sense. But at MIT, we could not do that…. It’s a tradition. There has to be a live person in the lecture hall.
Due in large part to volatile markets, the business school business has been very hectic lately, a climate that could—if conventional wisdom holds—create one of the most competitive admissions cycles in history.

Business school recruiting events are often standing-room only, and test prep companies are fielding dozens more phone calls a day from nervous prospects. The organization that administers the Graduate Management Admission Test, the business school admissions exam, reports that the number of tests taken worldwide the past two years has increased far faster than in previous years. Although some of the growth can be attributed to interest in business schools rising overall, the numbers speak for themselves. GMAT growth for August was 24.5 percent from 2006 to 2008, compared to 16.5 percent growth from 2004 to 2006.

Yesterday Night, I upgraded my another blog to WP 2.5 and Today morning updating my old cheery was on my To Do List.
I have been using WordPress as my blogging software and I yesterday I found that WP has finally released version 2.5. I have been following some posts about this and there has been a lot of talk about this release.
This is one of the major release with features like multi-file uploading, one-click plugin upgrades, built-in galleries, customizable dashboard, salted passwords and cookie encryption, media library, a WYSIWYG that doesn’t mess with your code, concurrent post editing protection, full-screen writing, and search that covers posts and pages.
As expected, the upgrade went smoothly apart from the fact that few of my plugins stopped working after the upgrade. But that was something expected. Not a big problem, I can try to fix this later, but the new version does look good indeed. For anyone currently on WordPress, its definitely worth upgrading.
BBC has just launched a new home page at http://www.bbc.co.uk/ - you can customize almost every section on the site to match your topics of interest.
The Beta version was launched in December for Test. Everyone has given a positive feedback on the new design and functionality.
Don’t like reading Sports news - push that module down or remove it complete from the home page. Think the color scheme is too simple, pick a different one from the presets. Want more news from South Asia - you can set that as a preference.
The site is more IE friendly and there were a few rough edges while making customizations inside Firefox.
Nevertheless, the new design is beautiful and very usable. This year we will probably see some more prominent news website following the BBC model.
